Lighthouse Kids Sponsor Walkathon to Raise Awareness and Funds to Save
White Island Lighthouse Station!

The White Island Lighthouse is more than 150 years old.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(Rye, N.H.) - White Island Lighthouse Station at the Isles of Shoals is New Hampshire’s only offshore lighthouse. It is on the National Historic Register and is in dire need of preservation. Lighthouse Kids Incorporated is a nonprofit group comprised of N.H. students, a board of directors and community supporters who are taking steps to save the historic structure - literally and figuratively.
Lighthouse Kids' will host a walkathon on Monday, May 16, 2011 with a rain date of Tuesday, May 17. The LHK Walkathon will begin at
the Rye Harbor parking lot on Route 1A and end at the North Hampton Beach parking lot across from the Beach Plum. As long as the day
is clear, all participants will have a view of the lighthouse as they walk a distance of four miles. Participants will walk in a southerly direction on
the east side of Route 1A, and will be transported back to Rye Harbor by bus or trolley. Everyone is encouraged to meet at Rye Harbor at 3
p.m. The start will be staggered but the first wave of walkers will begin shortly after 3 p.m.
There will be a celebration with hot dogs and ice cream at Rye Harbor after the walk. This should be a great event for Lighthouse Kids!
White Island Lighthouse Station is owned by the state of New Hampshire and Lighthouse Kids have partnered with the state to preserve this historic structure. At present, students working on the lighthouse project are from Rye Elementary School, Rye Junior High and Winnacunnet High School. The motto of Lighthouse Kids has always been, “Once a Lighthouse Kid – Always a Lighthouse Kid,” therefore, alumnae are forever considered Lighthouse Kids. Please join us!
